Combining a critical study of parallel economic systems, alternative social practices and social protest with an empirical analysis of urban policies, the output of British artist Nils Norman tends to focus on the problematics of marginal communities as producers of utopian options. It does so via maps, posters, models, books and mobile installations.
His contribution at La Box – coming just after the adoption of the Bologna Convention for art schools in Europe –draws on a preliminary study of a number of experimental art-teaching ventures, from the Bauhaus and the Russian Constructivists up to the present day.

Since the 1970s Michel Giroud's practice has been combining writing and reading, poetry and action, and encounters and educational initiatives. In 1990 he launched the project Patata (patatology) or PTT (Totally Total Poetry) in which his various activities come together 'globally in a sphere in perpetual motion', and in 1991 he founded the Nomadic University. A historian and theoretician of avant-garde movements, Michel Giroud has written on Wolf Vostell, Raoul Haussmann and Robert Filliou, and edits the Йcart Absolu series at Les Presses du Rйel in Dijon.
He will also be taking part in a workshop on experimentation in art education with the students of the Art School in Bourges, in association with La Box.
Colocation
The starting point for the programme Colocation [Living Together ] was a series of invitations to artists to create projects specifically for la box. Each contribution is integrated into the la box space and the economic and social context of the city of Bourges, and raises various questions about the nature of artistic actions: the artist's civic and ethical responsibility, reassessment of issues according to context, and place of a specific research in art. Plus, ultimately, the need for coexistence based on the sharing of resources.
